  • shop
  • online

For example, if fastflowers.com.au is taken, you can use thefastflowers.com.au or fastflowersshop.com.au

How long does it take to create a website?

This depends on the size of the website.  For most businesses working with a website designer, if it is a relatively simple website, say 10 pages, with no complex shopping carts, it should take no more than 3-4 weeks.  But much depends on how quickly you get back to your website designer.

If you are creating the website yourself, I would allow 3-6 months as you will need to learn a lot of new skills, not only about design, but also how to connect everything together, the content, the techy stuff.

How much should I expect to pay for a website?

Much really depends on your business and the functionality you require, however, it’s a good idea to include the following in your budget:

  • Domain name registration
  • Webhosting
  • SSL certificate
  • Website design and development
  • Memberships and/or plugins
  • Copywriting
  • Marketing
  • Tech support / maintenance

On average for a small to medium business website, expect to pay between $2000 – $5000.

What's the best plaform to use for designing a website?

For most businesses it is WordPress.  If you sell physical products, you can also consider Shopify.

What is the best design for my website?

The truth is there is no such thing as “best website design”.

The look, feel and layout will greatly depend on the industry you are in and your target audience.

You will need to test different components of your website to get the best possible response rate including:

  • Headlines
  • Images
  • Copy
  • Calls to action
  • Position of each element

There are however, some essential elements your homepage and internal pages will need to include.

Home page is the first page of your website.  It is also referred to as Index or Welcome page.

Landing pages are generally used for specific marketing campaigns and only have one call to action and no navigation to distract visitors.

If I use a theme or template, won’t my website look like everyone else’s?

The answer is yes and no.  If you download a theme and only change a few images, then yes your website will look like everyone else’s.

So the trick is to use the general look and functionality of the theme, but then add your own original content.

Do I own the website after it is created?

You own

  • Visual assets and design – brand, colours, images, graphics
  • Content

What you don’t own

  • Domain name – you have right to use it, but do not own it
  • Web server – your hosting account
  • Content Management System – Shopify or WordPress is owned by creators and licensed to you

Most people’s idea of social media marketing is just posting, but there are 3 other key elements:

  • Like / comment / share other’s people content without asking for anything. People are naturally curious and will check out your profile.
  • Ensure your profile is set up properly
  • Request to connect to people – but not just anybody – your ideal clients.

Which social media platform should I use?

If your business is B2B, then consider LinkedIn and Facebook.

Businesses that deal directly with customers, consider Twitter and Facebook.

For brands which are highly visual such as interior design, wedding, travel, choose Instagram and Pinterest.

If you are stretched for time, it’s best to choose one platform and be very active rather than have several platforms and rarely post anything.

What should I post on social media?

Don’t just bombard your followers with tons of sales posts, but instead provide helpful and entertaining information including:

  • Free downloadables
  • Valuable tips
  • Testimonials
  • Inspirational Quotes
  • Industry News
  • Favourite Tools

Our courses provide you with 30 days of social media content calendars.
